T-Mobile runs a three-tier international structure. The first tier is free 2G data at 256kbps included with most unlimited plans. The second tier is a paid high-speed day pass at $5 or $15 per day depending on your plan. The third tier is Stateside International, a $35 per month add-on for unlimited calls and texts to 35 countries while you are in the US.

The free tier covers 215+ countries and territories as of 2026. It activates automatically when your phone registers on a foreign carrier network. You do not need to call T-Mobile, enable a setting, or install anything. Your phone simply connects and you have 256kbps data, unlimited texts, and $0.25 per minute calls.

Mexico and Canada are the exception. T-Mobile includes both countries on most current unlimited plans with full LTE data, not 256kbps. If you are traveling to North America only, T-Mobile's international roaming is often the best deal available from any US carrier.
