How we verify rates →

Sarah Chen is a consumer telecom researcher who has tracked international roaming rate changes across 6 major carriers since 2023. Before joining AvoidRoaming, she worked as a consumer pricing analyst at J.D. Power, where she covered wireless carrier satisfaction surveys and rate-plan transparency scores.

Her work at AvoidRoaming focuses on one thing: making sure the roaming costs we publish are accurate. She verifies carrier roaming rates monthly against official pricing pages from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, EE, Vodafone, Telstra, Rogers, and Optus. eSIM provider prices are checked weekly against Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Nomad.

Sarah currently maintains pricing data for 205 destinations, each with verified eSIM plan costs and carrier roaming charges. Every savings claim on the site traces back to her rate verification process.

Our methodology

Every number on AvoidRoaming goes through a verification process before publication. Here is how we check each data category:

Carrier roaming rates

Checked monthly against official rate cards from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, EE, Vodafone, Telstra, Rogers, and Optus. We pull international roaming pass prices, per-MB overage rates, and voice call charges directly from each carrier's published pricing pages. When a carrier updates its rates, we log the change date and old price for reference.

eSIM provider prices

Checked weekly against Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Nomad websites. We record plan prices at full retail without promo codes or referral discounts. Plans are purchased and tested at our own expense. No provider gives us complimentary access or sponsored accounts.

Savings calculations

Each savings figure compares the carrier daily pass rate against the cheapest eSIM plan for the same destination and trip duration. For carriers without a daily pass, we use the per-MB rate multiplied by estimated daily usage (500 MB). Actual savings depend on destination, carrier plan, and provider choice.

Independence

No eSIM provider pays for rankings or placement on AvoidRoaming. Provider comparisons are ranked by coverage breadth, per-GB price, app quality, and customer support responsiveness. Where affiliate relationships exist, we disclose them. Affiliate partnerships never influence ranking order.
